Haspin Acres

Last weekend Ryan and I joined Andy Binkley and his son Drew for a day of dirt biking at Haspin Acres - an off-road park 3 hours south of Ft. Wayne. It was an amazing place...750 acres of dirt, hills, mud, and dust.

The highlights of the day were Ryan jumping over me, and me going over the handlebars as I got into a little deeper mud than I was planning.

RAAM...are you serious?

So here I was sitting at a Christmas party, and a friend tells me he is organizing an 8-man RAAM team for this June. After about 10 minutes of chatting - he asks me if I'm interested in joining the group. My brain is swimming....biking across the US is on my "must do" list before I depart to the other side!

But racing across the country is another thing. 3,000 miles as fast as we can go? Non-stop...24/7 biking by a group of middle-aged weekend warriors?

Can I get off of work? What about the cost? Will I need a new bike? How will I do with minimal sleep? Can I get trained in 6 months?

So many questions...so little time.

Winter is setting in on the Fort. The trees have shed their leaves and most of the raking is over. My trusty Trek will spend more and more time hanging in the garage - but I'm planning to ride more through the winter than in years past. I was able to get out this past week for a nice ride...it was very peaceful!
